Pelican Bay Athletic Organization (PBAO) is a grassroots organization which works to provide our local youth organizations with monetary assistance. Generous donors help our success in making it possible for PBAO to assist in defraying some of the cost incurred allowing local youth organizations to compete in numerous community organized programs.
Examples of programs that PBAO have helped assist over the years include: Del Norte and Brookings High School Scholarship Programs, Court Appointed Special Advocates of Del Norte (CASA), Santa’s Workshop, Safe and Sober High School Graduation Events, Local School and Community Programs: Wrestling, Baseball, Football, Tennis, Track and Field, 4-H, Bowling, Softball, Boxing and High School Rodeo
PBAO began as a small non-profit in 1991, called Pelican Bay Athletic Association (PBAA). At the time, PBAA raised funds for California Department of Corrections (CDC) Olympics and Pelican Bay Softball teams. Early fundraisers included golf tournaments and souvenir sales of hats, coins, shirts and motorcycle poker rides.
Over the years, PBAA grew their volunteer base and expanded their support of community events. Assisting with the annual Halloween Dance, Quarter Craze events, and expanded partnerships with local youth sports in Del Norte and Curry Counties. Due to the growth of the group and the expanding of providing donations to the local youth, the PBAA became Pelican Bay Athletic Organization.
PBAO is interested in adding new members to the organization. Pelican Bay staff and community member not associated with the prison are welcome.
PBAO envisions vibrant and thriving communities where every young person has the opportunity to participate, grow, and succeed through athletics and community involvement. We aspire to be a leading source of support for local youth programs, fostering a culture of teamwork, leadership, sportsmanship, and service. Through strong community partnerships, dedicated volunteers, and generous donors, we seek to create lasting opportunities that inspire future generations and strengthen the communities of Del Norte and Curry Counties.
The Pelican Bay Athletic Organization (PBAO) is dedicated to strengthening our communities by providing financial support to youth athletic programs, and community-based initiatives throughout Del Norte and Curry Counties. Through volunteer service, fundraising efforts, and the generosity of our donors, PBAO helps reduce financial barriers that prevent young people from participating in sports and positive community activities.
Since 1991, PBAO has been committed to investing in the success and well-being of local youth by supporting scholarships, athletics, leadership programs, and family-focused community events. We strive to foster teamwork, character development, and community engagement while building partnerships that create lasting opportunities for future generations.
Our Mission is to make a positive difference in the lives of local youth and families by promoting participation, achievement, and community spirit through service, support, and collaboration.
